Our client wanted to make the most of a small courtyard at the rear of his townhouse, which is partly overlooked by other neighbours. Much of the existing courtyard is concreted and is home to a collection of large potted trees and flowering shrubs. The area we transformed was a neglected lawn area that seemed like a waste of space. The design captures the sunniest corner of the garden with a seating nook covered by a delicate timber pergola. The pergola creates shade from the summer sun but allows the winter sun to soak the whole seat, and offers privacy from the neighbours overhead. The broad timber seat is wide enough for the displaying and working on the owner’s growing collection of Bonsai trees. We integrated LED lighting into the black granite paving to light up the timbers overhead at night. Our client now has an extra room to his home where he can relax or entertain friends.
“The Carpenters did an absolutely fantastic job on the Pergola. Everyone who has seen it has been very impressed and I spend most afternoons out there watering the garden or pulling a weed or two here and there and I find it a very relaxing place to spend time with a wine or two.” W.T. 2016
